April Fool’s Kitty Litter Box Cake

april-fools-kitty-litter-box-cake

Every once in a while a cake-like dessert such as this is just what my funny bone doctor ordered. It’s so simple to make and has no specific pattern to follow! Just mix and bake the cakes according to the box directions, as well as whipping up the instant vanilla pudding. Crumble white sandwich cookies and color with blue or green food coloring to represent the colored kitty litter bits. Stir in the vanilla pudding. Shape slightly warmed Tootsie Rolls into organic, natural shapes (you know what I mean) and position accordingly. Sprinkle with the crushed cookies and serve in a clean, unused cat litter pan with a clean, unused litter scoop. Trust me, it looks gross, but it’s SO good!

If you’re looking for an easy, realistic April Fool’s Day dessert for a party, or to take to the office (especially if you work at veterinarian’s office), this one is for you! What’s even better is that the whole family can help make it. Put those little hands to work by crumbling the cooled baked cake, shaking the bag to color the cookie crumbs, or molding chocolate candy into lumpy shapes. (Cue the poo jokes and immature laughing!)

I can’t say that Joe approves of it, but it’s a pretty close match to what we scoop out of his potty box on a regular basis. (Don’t worry, Joe was not allowed into or contributed to this one!)

Sit back and watch the reaction from unsuspecting people when you scoop up and offer them a cakey pile with a poo-shaped candy poking out! LOL! Happy April Fool’s Day!

April Fool’s Kitty Litter Box Cake

One of the easiest cakes to make, but yet one of the most disgusting looking!  Fear not though! It’s delightfully tasty featuring white and chocolate cake, vanilla pudding, white sandwich cookies, and Tootsie Rolls.

Ingredients

Scale

115.25 oz. white cake mix, including ingredients to make prepared cake–eggs and vegetable oil

115.25 oz. German Chocolate cake mix, including ingredients to make prepared cake–eggs and vegetable oil

15.1 oz. instant vanilla pudding mix, including milk to prepare pudding

1 package white or golden sandwich cookies (about 36 cookies)*

Blue or green food coloring

Tootsie Roll candy (about 8-12 pieces)

Clean, unused cat litter box pan

Clean, unused cat litter box scoop

Instructions

Prepare and bake both cake mixes (white and German Chocolate) according to the box instructions.  Let cool to room temperature.

Prepare instant vanilla pudding according to the box instructions.  Refrigerate until set.

Using a food processor or blender, crush sandwich cookies until sandy in texture.  Place 1 cup of crushed cookies in a zip-top plastic bag.  Add 7-10 drops of blue or green food coloring to cookies.  Shake until evenly colored.  (If some cookies aren’t colored, it’s okay.)

To assemble cake, crumble white and German Chocolate cake into a large bowl.   Add about half of the uncolored cookie crumbs and half of the colored crumbs to the crumbled cake.  Mix in the vanilla pudding to make the cake moist.  It shouldn’t be soggy.  Pour into clean, unused cat litter box pan and spread evenly.

Unwrap and microwave Tootsie Rolls for about 15-30 seconds to make them soft and pliable.  Shape the candy into curved shapes with tapered points.  Position the candy in and on top of the cake pudding mixture.  Scatter the remaining uncolored and colored cookie crumbs on top.  Position the clean, unused cat litter box scoop in the cake.  Place the pan on a sheet of newspaper or paper.  Serve immediately.  Store any unused cake in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

*I used regular Golden Oreos (not double stuffed).
