One of the most respected men in Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama has shared his words of wisdom and teaching on everything from human rights to astronomy and politics.

Now waging in on modern relationships, his Holiness has offered advice to anyone suffering broken heart.

The 80-year old Nobel Prize winner was speaking in an interview with TIME magazine when he mused over the difficulty of mending a broken heart.

Offering up his advice, the Dalai Lama said:

“Practice celibacy. If you look at the nature of strong attachment, underlying that strong attachment is a clinging, grasping, and if you look at other reactive emotions that arise, actually it is strong attachment that underpins hatred, anger, jealousy and so on, so if you somehow are able to look at this and recognise that a large part of the reception is perception, that could [cure] some of this strong grasping.”

While it might sound a little old-school, there has to be something to letting your heart heal. You might just want to put your first singles’ night on hold for now…
