This place is truly the perfect Irish pub. Jovial but not obnoxiously rowdy, friendly folks behind the bar, and a beautifully poured pint of Guinness. It's only a tad off the beaten path, but you'll feel worlds away from the fray of Temple Bar once you've arrived. Beautiful trappings and cozy wood paneling will surround you, and each time we came we ended up striking up great chats (erm, craic) with those around us - locals and visitors alike.
This will be the first place I head whenever I'm lucky enough to find myself back in Dublin.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - JB W.Fairfield, CT4709Oct 5, 2021
A proper pub! Great Guinness pour, solid service, great vibe of what an Irish pick b should be. Main bar and back quiet room are awesome.

One of the top spots in Dublin to enjoy a pint of Guinness!
The Stag's Head, located on Dame Court in the heart of the Dublin city center, is one of Dublin's best preserved Victorian pubs. The pub dates back to 1770, but was remodeled in 1895. The décor has not changed much since 1895 besides the addition of a television at the bar. You'll find mosaic marble-tiled floors, red Connemara marble tabletops, stained glass windows, and Victorian chandeliers at The Stag's Head. The carved mahogany wood paneling, whiskey barrels and the stag's head hanging over the bar gives this bar a "gentlemen's club" vibe. This lavishly decorated Victorian pub was one of James Joyce's watering holes.
A variety of events are held in the Upstairs Parlour at The Stag's Head:
* Comedy Crunch (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday)
* Live Traditional Irish Music (Friday and Saturday)
* Candlelit Tales (3rd Monday of every month)
My husband, sister, and I stopped in the Stag's Head on a Sunday night and the bar was packed, but we managed to find a table on the ground floor, near the bar. We didn't order any food during our visit since they only serve lunch from noon until 6pm. During our visit we enjoyed several pints of Guinness and Cider.
I would definitely recommend adding this historical Victorian pub to your pub crawl list!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Nov 27, 2019
We really enjoyed this bar - food and drink were on point. Burger and fish and chips for the kids and I had the delicious grilled ham and cheese sandwich. Barkeep was nice and efficient and kept the beer flowing. Very well appointed and decorated bar, one which I will return so as soon as ic an.

We popped in here for a drink. The ambiance was great (legit Irish bar), but it was completely ruined by the fact that everyone would stand right outside the front door to smoke their cigarettes, which blew all the nasty smoke right into the bar (I.e. pointless).
I will say that the bartender was very knowledgeable and made some great recommendations. But we had to leave after 1 drink due to the smoking.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Adam D.Dublin, Republic of Ireland24812Jan 3, 2020
The thing I like most about this pub is the stained glass windows.
The location is a long-thin room with a high ceiling. It is probably best if you are 2 people meeting for a drink. For groups of 4+ it is standing room only, and you'll be jostled a lot by passers by.
Staff is friendly and on the ball. The pints are good, but they could be served a bit colder in my opinion.
The patrons are decent folk, no riff-raff.
Great set of pubs on this lane. It's like what Temple Bar would be like without being in Temple Bar.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Natalie A.Berkeley Heights, NJ1603991811Oct 6, 2017
This was one of our favorite spots in Dublin. Great food in a beautiful and cozy restaurant.
We were seated in the back section by request, so comfy and private in that back corner. They're stained glass everywhere and pictures of Stags all across the walls. The back area even has a compartment for the kitchen to feed out food and was fun to see the orders fed out to staff. The booths in this back section were really comfortable. The entire restaurant is made of wood and there's dark cherry colors across the decor. Absolutely loved all of the stained glass windows within this restaurant.
I ordered the fish and chips, was a generous serving. My husband ordered a burger and both of our fries were thickly cut and cooked to perfection. We enjoyed our meal immensely. The waitress was very nice and allowed us to take our time as we let our feet rest from all the walking around the city. No complaints at this place, a definite must visit.
We were to full for any dessert! Would go back to this place in a heartbeat.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 4226280Jul 5, 2017
My husband and I were in Dublin for the day as part of our cruise itinerary. We found this place online prior to our cruise, because it was in between two tours we had scheduled in town and it was highly-rated online.
This place did not disappoint. The ambiance, food, and service were great. My husband had Fish and Chips, which was among the better ones he had while visiting England, Ireland, and Scotland (7 F+C in total during our trip). I had a Chicken Sandwich with Fries, because I was a bit Fish and Chip'd out - and I was was really blown away by how good it was (pulled chicken, bacon, cole slaw, delicious aioli...yum!).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
