Maine's popular resorts gear up for impending ski and snowboard season

PORTLAND (WGME) -- The ski and snowboard season is right around the corner in Maine, and some resorts are already preparing for the winter season.

Some popular resorts in the Pine Tree State are Sunday River, Sugarloaf and Saddleback Mountain.

Sunday River, a very popular winter mountain located in Newry, Maine, tested out their snow cannons on Tuesday. An opening date is still in the works but expect somewhere in early-to-mid November.

Saddleback Mountain will be testing its snow cannons over the next few weeks. As of Tuesday, their tentative soft-opening date will be December 2.

Sugarloaf Mountain has a target opening date of November 17.

CBS13 has reached out to other mountains on their tentative dates, but have yet to hear back.

In the past, most of Maine's ski and snowboard mountains have opened in November and December.

Past Open Dates:

  • Sugarloaf Mountain (November 18th, 2022 until April 30th, 2023)
  • Sunday River (November 17th, 2022 until April 23rd, 2023)
  • Saddleback Mountain (December 10, 2022 until April 15th, 2023)
  • Mount Pleasant (December 18th, 2022 until April 2nd, 2023)

The Climate Prediction Center has updated its October, November and December outlook. New England is set to stay above and near the normal temperature while staying normal regarding precipitation.
