In life's trials and joys, Kelly Brooks-Bay is classy, a servant to others, and considerate. This book is a great demonstration of that humility and desire to help children learn the Golden Rule: To love one another as one loves him/her self.
"The Rainbow Pants" - written by Kelly Brooks-Bay and illustrated by Lindsay Weirich - does all that and more.
The theme of the book is that people have different feelings, and that those feelings change. In this story, the main character, Peter T. Peacock, discovers that sometimes he is grumpy, sometimes scared, sometimes happy...and a variety of basic human feelings. The message of the book affirms the normalcy of these feelings. Peter's mother shows him that his choice of clothing colors reflects his feelings.
The writing is charmingly straightforward, perfect for young children. The illustrations are gorgeous. As a mother of three grown children, I could well imagine reading this to (or with) a child and asking, "What do you think will happen next?" and getting lots of answers and giggles.
A lovely book, a five-star rating, and well, I think I'll go put on my happy, sunny, yellow pants.
