Revo GR Sport

The revered Toyota Hilux nameplate is getting a pair of special edition models created by the manufacturer's Thai division. Designed specifically for the Thailand market, the Hilux Revo GR Sport comes in two variations, appropriately named Lo-Floor and Hi-Floor. While the Hi-Floor model, as seen in the following slide, looks like an ordinary sporty pickup, the Lo-Floor version comes with unusual proportions.

Lo-Floor

And its because of those unusual proportions that the Hilux Revo GR Sport Lo-Floor has been the subject of some discussion. Designed to have a more car-like driving feel, the Lo-Floor is equipped with a RWD system, as opposed to the Hi-Floor, which comes with off-road-capable 4WD. But the most prominent feature on the Lo-Floor has to be the oddly small wheels and tires.

Tiny Wheels

The Lo-Floor pickup rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in street tires. The wheel and tire combination would be more fitting for a smaller vehicle like the Corolla, for example. But with a significantly larger vehicle like the Hilux, it looks wildly out of place. The additional body kit, extending the visual mass of the pickup further down accentuates the discrepancy.

Product of the Enviroment

With that being said, we have to take into consideration how the pickup truck looks with respect to its surroundings. While here in the United States, we're used to lifted trucks with oversized tires, in eastern countries such as Thailand, the Lo-Floor will likely fit right it, serving as exactly the purpose Toyota's local decision-makers have intended for it.

Racing Inspiration

Both models take inspiration from Toyota's involvement and success in racing, at least from a visual standpoint. The Lo-Floor version of the truck is powered by a 2.8-liter turbodiesel that puts down 201 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Sold in Thailand

Pricing for the Hilux Revo GR Sport special edition models starts at 889,000 THB for the Lo-Floor and 1,299,000 THB for the Hi-Floor, which equates to  $27,500 and $40,100 respectively, with current exchange rates. These pickups are now on sale in Thailand, and that's likely the only market they will be sold in.
