Is this video proof of spontaneous HUMAN COMBUSTION? Shocking footage shows man lying in the street bursting into flames

  • The man was filmed on fire on the streets of Novi Sad, in northern Serbia
  • He is filmed lying calmly on the ground despite his clothes being on fire
  • The strange incident was filmed by a man asking 'hello, what's happening?'
  • It could yet prove to be an incident of spontaneous human combustion
  • The phenomenon is used when humans go up in flames without ignition

A disturbing video of a man lying calmly on the ground while on fire could be a rare case of spontaneous combustion caught on camera.

The man was pictured lying 'peacefully' in the doorway of a building with a bicycle parked nearby - and with flames coming from his stomach and chest.

The strange incident occurred on the streets of Serbia's second largest city Novi Sad.

A man can be heard approaching him - perhaps the taker of the video – saying: 'Hello, hello, what's happening?'

But the burning man waves him away as if lying covered in flames is the most natural thing in the world.

The video was first posted on a Facebook page called 'Live from the streets of Novi Sad'.

According to the information, they received the video at the end of November last year, with one commenter saying the man is 'known' on the streets of Novi Sad for 'problematic behaviour'.

It claimed the human barbecue ended without serious injuries.

What remains unclear is if the man had deliberately torched himself or fallen victim to the bizarre phenomenon known as spontaneous human combustion.

It is the term used when a human body goes up in flames without an apparent external source of ignition.

Spontaneous human combustion has been implied as a cause of death in a number of documented cases where police have found burned corpses - but without an apparent external source of ignition.

An estimated 200 cases have been found throughout history and victims are often elderly, sick, or under the influence of alcohol, which could explain why they have not been able to escape the flames.

Puzzled scientists have come up with the 'wick theory' to explain such events. The theory is that the human body can become an 'inside out' candle.

The person's clothes are the wick, while their body fat is the wax or flammable substance, which keeps the blaze going.

Limbs may be left intact because of the temperature gradient, with the bottom half of the body being cooler than the top.

Or if he had simply set himself ablaze
