Jodi Gordon made the shock admission she has struggled with substance abuse for 'most of her life' as she celebrated her 39th birthday on Thursday.
The actress shared a raw post to Instagram explaining how going to rehab and becoming sober 'completely changed my life in ways I didn't think were possible'.
The former Home and Away star completed a 30-day recovery program for alcohol addiction at a Sydney clinic in 2022.
'I have battled substance abuse for the most part of my life, stepping into recovery at 24 but never being able to stay stopped,' she wrote in the post.
'On April 7th 2022 I got sober and have stayed sober ever since, completely changing my life in ways I didn't think were possible.'

Gordon said her mother Bronwyn was her 'hero' and is 'constantly teaching me how to use my own strength to get back up'.
She also revealed how her father, who passed away last year, taught her 'acceptance, forgiveness and unconditional love'.
She hinted she had mended her rocky relationship with her ex-husband Braith Anasta, thanking the former NRL star for giving her the gift of their daughter Aleeia, nine.
'I always wanted a big family, and I got one with my daughter Aleeia. She is unlike any human I have ever known, so loving, fierce, patient, wise, and curious,' she continued.
'I love being her teacher and student... Thank you Braith for the wonderful gift of a lifetime.'

Gordon's struggles first came to light when she was embroiled in a bizarre drug scandal with former bikie associate and Kings Cross identity Mark Judge back in June 2009.
The pair were found by police huddled in the bedroom of Mark's Bellevue Hill home, after Gordon had called Triple Zero under the delusion that armed intruders were threatening her life - sparking an emergency operation.
Police reviewed CCTV footage and found no sign of any intruders - only Gordon and Judge hiding in a bedroom.
Gordon allegedly told officers during an interview following the bizarre episode that cocaine had been consumed earlier that night.

A day earlier, her fiancé, Channel Seven heir Ryan Stokes, had called Kings Cross police to report Gordon missing after a night out. The pair broke up soon after the scandal.
Following her split from Ryan, Gordon went on to date the man who would become her husband: rugby league player Braith Anasta.
They were married between 2012 and 2015, and welcomed their daughter Aleeia in 2014.
The couple sadly split in 2015, and Gordon went on to have a couple of romances before meeting British banker, Sebastian Blackler in 2020.
But their relationship turned sour in November of that year, when it was revealed that Blackler was to face court over an apprehended violence order taken out by police just a week after Gordon went public with their relationship.

Police took out an interim AVO, allegedly to protect Gordon from Blackler after attending her eastern suburbs home.
Cops were called to Gordon's house in Double Bay shortly after midnight after reports of a disturbance.
'Around 12.30am on Friday, November 27, 2020, officers were called to a unit at Wiston Gardens at Double Bay,' a NSW Police spokesman said at the time.
'Following inquiries, officers from Eastern Suburbs suspended the investigation at the request of the victim. No further action is expected at this time.'
Police subsequently took out an interim AVO to prevent Blackler from assaulting, threatening, stalking, harassing or intimidating Gordon.

It is understood the pair broke up in May 2021, but rekindled their relationship in February 2022.
But a similar incident which occurred in April 2022 finally ended their romance for good before Gordon entered rehab.
Court papers alleged police found Gordon 'well affected by intoxicating liquor' at a Kurrajong Heights guesthouse on April 3, 2022 with an injured Sebastian Blackler.
Shortly after, a magistrate at Windsor Local Court ordered that Gordon and Blackler not contact each other until April 2024.
Another condition of the Apprehended Violence Orders taken out by police against the couple - and consented to by their lawyers without admissions - forbade them from being able to stalk, harass or assault one another.
Blackler's lawyer Michael Bowe told Daily Mail Australia at the time that the volatile romance between the two was now over.
The AVOs related to an alleged altercation in far north-western Sydney.
NSW Police were called to a bed and breakfast and arrested Blackler but later released him without charge.

Court documents reportedly said when police asked Blackler about bruising and swelling to his left eye, he allegedly said his girlfriend 'hit him with a wine bottle', but declined to make a formal statement.
The AVO documents also stated police found bruising on Gordon's left eye and bottom lip, and three lumps on her forehead, but believed the injuries were days old.
Documents tendered to the court also alleged that police 'fear domestic assaults are occurring between the parties with Gordon's consumption of intoxicating liquor exacerbating the violence'.
'There is clearly domestic violence occurring between the parties [but they] are reluctant to disclose how the injuries have been sustained,' the documents said.
Officers took out a restraining order against Gordon on behalf of Blackler, who was also issued with an AVO against the actress over the same alleged incident.
Since her rehab stint following the incident, Gordon has been single and focusing on health, fitness and motherhood.
She is often seen enjoying ice baths and exercising on Coogee Beach.
In her post on Thursday, Gordon revealed her new career change, explaining she is now studying a Bachelor of Counselling and Communication Skills and recently started her first professional job in Mental Health.
'I love this tough journey in a new field, working incredibly hard, working my way up fiercely, curiously, wonder and purpose every single day,' she continued.
'The future looks so bright walking this path to become a counsellor and staying sober to share my journey. Here's to that good fight in reducing discrimination and stigma that we all know is there.'
She ended by saying how poetry and writing has 'helped me through the many dark spots of my life'.
'If you have been on this wild ride with me, thank you for seeing my colour when sometimes I have only displayed grey. Thank you for loving me and supporting me in your owns ways. I have felt it.'
