Castle as we know it is coming to an end, as Stana Katic is leaving at the end of the season - regardless of whether the show is picked up for a ninth run or not.

ABC made the decision not to renew the contracts of Katic (who plays Captain Beckett) and Tamara Jones (medical examiner Lanie Parish) as part of a major shake-up - but it left some of the cast rather peeved.

However, Molly Quinn, who plays Castle's daughter Alexis on the crime drama, insisted that show can continue as long as Nathan Fillion is part of it.

"Yesterday was a horrible day," she said. "Y'all are right, I did work with Stana Katic and Tamala Jones for eight years. I love them. I'm heartbroken.

"I have zero control over what happens. But if we come back, I promise Nathan Fillion will bring all of you a damn fine show.

"It'll be different, way, way, way different, but it is Castle. Nathan Fillion IS Castle."

Quinn also hit back at 'bullies' online, saying that Twitter is a "privilege, not a right".

"I want to share what I do with all of you, but will do so if I choose and in my own time. Do not bully," she said.

Castle airs on ABC in the US and on Alibi in the UK.
