Zangief has EX Double Lariat and anti-air Super Art revealed in new Street Fighter 6 footage

Zangief's moveset and tools have been tweaked and changed around quite a bit throughout Street Fighter's history, and it seems he'll be cooking up some new sauce for the next time we see him.

Capcom just released some new footage for the Russian grappler as he'll appear in Street Fighter 6, which reveals new ways for Zangief's lariat special to be used as well as his Super Art 1.

The big surprise is that Zangief finally has an Overdrive (EX) version to his Double Lariat, which can also be Super canceled into his level 2 Cyclone Lariat.

As far as we know, this is the first time the developers have given him an EX lariat, and that brings with it a bunch of new implications about how it can be used.

Considering Double Lariat is typically performed with all 3 punch buttons, the move will have to do something different for its Overdrive whether that be making the attack use motions now, only 2 punches or a combination of punches and kicks.

SF6 Director Takayuki Nakayama confirmed Zangief's level 1 Super is called Aerial Russian Slam, which seems to work as both an anti-air as well as extension from his level 2.

The new footage also shows off that Cyclone Lariat has 2 different versions. The initial trailer showed him striking a pose and slamming Honda into the floor.

According to Nakayama (as translated by our own Nicholas 'MajinTenshinhan' Taylor), Gief will continue to spin and launch the opponent if the player holds the button down after activating the Super.

With Zangief's level 1 Super being an anti-air grab, that might mean the grappler has no true reversals in his arsenal aside from his level 3 command grab unless they decide to give OD Double Lariat those properties.
