But having backed that up with a Premier League and Scottish Cup double the following year, the Dutchman failed to win any more trophies and resigned in December 2001 with rivals Celtic 12 points clear in the title race.

Advocaat has since held 13 positions across two continents, with his spell at Zenit Saint Petersburg – in which his side defeated Rangers to win the 2008 UEFA Cup – the most notable title-wise.

Now the manager of Turkish giants Fenerbahce, the 69-year-old led his side to victory against Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday.

Fener, however, are struggling in the Super Lig and after a mixed spell at Sunderland in 2015, Advocaat is unsurprisingly keen to hark back to a more successful time

And speaking to Talksport on Friday, he was unable to resist commenting on his time at Ibrox as soon as his old side’s name cropped up: “It was the best time of my life,” Advocaat admitted. “Rangers was the best time of my life, honestly.”
