Parents angry at 'frightening' Thomas the Tank Engine makeover

The revamped Thomas the Tank Engine look has left many parents angry at the 'frightening' and 'scary' design of the much-loved kids show.

Thousands of parents have vented their frustrations after kids were 'reduced to tears' over his “menacing” cartoon look.

The classic TV show has recently undergone a new a 2D makeover - in an attempt to appeal to a new generation of children.

But the new design seems to have backfired after many spoke of how upset their kids were at the new look.

Taking to Facebook to vent many wrote under the promotional video to express their concern.

A mum raged: “Why have they made him look like Dennis the Menace? It’s frightening. My five-year-old son is so upset.”

Another commented: “My six-year-old daughter almost cried. She hates it.”

A third added: “My Thomas-obsessed three-year-old said ‘That’s not Thomas!’”

The iconic tank engine first appeared in Rev Wilbert Awdry’s books The Railway Series in 1946 - making his TV debut in 1984.

At the time Ringo Starr narrated the show.

Thomas was bought by US toy giant Mattel, in 2011 for £500million and has masterminded the controversial makeover, turning the characters into kids.
