Tewkesbury open for business despite floods

Tewkesbury Borough Council is reassuring visitors that Tewkesbury town is open for business, despite the current flood water.

While dramatic images have been used nationally to highlight flooding in the town, Tewkesbury Borough Council, alongside local residents, businesses and organisations, is emphasising that this is normal winter flooding for the area and the town is still accessible from all routes, with shops and businesses open as normal.

Peter Tonge, Tewkesbury Borough Council's head of community services, said: "While the images of Tewkesbury Abbey with the flooding look dramatic it can give the impression that the town has been cut off, which just isn't the case.

"We need to be supporting our local economy as much as possible, so it is really important that we all do what we can to make it very clear to the public and businesses that they are able to access the town - and that it really is business as usual."
