Grainne Seoige and her husband Leon Jordaan had a low key civil ceremony in Galway ahead of their winter wedding in December 2019.

The couple made things official in front of just eight guests in a private affair at The G Hotel five days before their big wedding in Cliff at Lyons.

The bride wore a custom white gown created by Irish designer Marion Murphy Cooney as she and her South African beau said "I do" in style two years ago.

Opening up about her special day, Grainne said: "It was small, eight people were present including ourselves so it was intimate and very special."

"Little did any of us know what lay ahead. Covid wasn’t even a twinkle in the eye in Ireland then," she added in an Instagram post.

"Looking back on the last 365 days life as we know it has been altered maybe forever.

"All of us have had to adapt and change."

"Many couples are now looking at this type of small ceremony and celebration as their only option and I want to say it does not lose any of it’s meaning for it’s small size.

"It was wonderful for us to take this step in Galway and the @theghotel made the day so very special for us.

"Go raibh míle maith agaibh."

Grainne praised Marion Murphy Cooney for her help on the day

She said: "The talented and lovely @marion_murphy_cooney custom made my beautiful winter white drapey gúna and my something borrowed was the elegant netting headpiece she lent me for the ceremony. Thank you Marion."

Just eight months after getting married in Ireland, Grainne and Leon swapped their lived in South Africa for a return back to Ireland.

She said: "We ended up making a transcontinental relocation during a global pandemic and somehow kept the show on the road with support and love from our family and friends.

The Dancing with the Stars contestant added: "We designed and made our own rings and those symbolic circles take on more meaning all the time as life continues to wash over us and shape our paths.

"Looking forward to the next year and what it brings."

Grainne and Leon then got married in front of a crowd of 100 guests in Cliff at Lyons on December 28 2019.

Present on the day were Grainne's sister Sile, The Today Show presenter Maura Derrane and Ireland AM star Muireann O'Connell.
