BEAT The Chasers fans were left stunned tonight after a former Casualty heartthrob appeared on the show.

Clive Mantle starred in the long-running medical drama and its spin-off Holby City as Dr Mike Barratt between 1992 and 2001.

The actor received huge amounts of fan mail from female viewers at the time and was even voted 7th in a poll of Top 10 Heartthrob Docs On The Box.

But the actor, 63, now looks so different from his BBC consultant character that Beat The Chasers viewers failed to recognise him.

During his introductory chat, host Bradley Walsh said: "Nice to see you again, mate. It's been a few years. I've gotta say, you look very well."

Clive told him: "I've lost a couple of stone."

Bradley replied: "You have, you really have!"

Taking to Twitter, one fan tweeted: "F*** me Clive Mantel looks so different! I hardly recognised him!"

Another added: "Bl**** hell... where's Clive Mantle gone?"

A third, meanwhile, gushed: "Clive Mantle has aged VERY well!"

Clive played Dr Barratt in Casualty from 1992 to 1996. He then reprised the role in Holby City from 1999 to 2001.

The star, who also appeared in the first series of Game Of Thrones and The Vicar Of Dibley, was among four celebrities who took part in Monday night's Beat The Chasers for charity.

He hoped to raise money for the National Youth Theatre.

Incredibly, Clive went on the beat the chasers and scooped an incredible £100,000 for the organisation.

Clive appeared emotional as he realised just how much money he had won - and fans also found themselves getting misty-eyed.

One tweeted: "Wonderful win on #BeatTheChasers with the brilliant #clivemantle for @NYTofGB - brought a tear to my eye."

Chiming in, another added: "OMG!!!!! Clive Mantel. Fantastic! #BeatTheChasers."

A third wrote: "Clive Mantle has #BeatTheChasers! £100k for his charity! Incredible!"

Clive - who starred alongside Clint Eastwood in the 1990 movie White Hunter, Black Heart - has since posted a picture of himself and Bradley on Twitter.

He admitted: "Most nerve wracking thing I’ve ever done (fight scene with ⁦@ClintEastwo_ aside)⁩ ."
