TREEMENDOUS

I keep my Christmas tree up all year long and decorate it for each season – I’m not the only one

MOST of us won’t even start thinking about decorating the Christmas tree until December is well under way.

But for Anne-Marie Cahill, the festive staple is a permanent fixture all year round.

She decorates her Christmas tree from season to season.

Anne-Marie told the Irish Sun: “I have been doing seasonal decorations for years now.

“The tree started about ten years ago when I just couldn’t bear the emptiness of the house after the Xmas decorations were put back.

“It’s is now a permanent fixture which I change from season to season.”

Anne-Marie admitted the season tree still creates a stir in the family.

She said: “It’s mainly family that see it.

"You’d think they’d be used to it by now, but it still manages to create a bit of a stir when I do a new one.

The Clare woman currently has the tree decorated for summer.

She took to Instagram, posting under @anne_marie_cahill, to show off her summer creation.

She said: “If the weather refuses to play ball with me this year…..then I’ve brought the ‘seaside’ inside.”

The Christmas tree is decorated with baubles in different shades of blue, beach signs and white lights - but she’s not alone.

Anne-Marie said: “I thought I was the only person doing it in the world, but I have since seen that it’s a very American thing.

"So I’m not as exclusive as I thought.”

She joked: “Probably not much of it being done in Ireland - people have more sense.”

Her Instagram feed reveals the crimbo tree dressed for Valentine's, Halloween, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

She said: “Instagram is where I get the best reaction.

"No one expects to see a decorated tree all year round and they seem to love it.”

The craft expert picked up decorations for her summer tree in Dunnes Stores and Carraig Donn.

Anne-Marie said: “I collect decorations all year round.

"Particularly in the sales and keep them for an occasion that I know I’ll get the use out of them.

“Some I have for years before I ever use them, but the right opportunity always presents itself.

“Others, people give me. They see things they won’t use themselves but they know I’ll find some use for them.”

Creating her epic seasonal trees can be a challenge.

Anne-Marie said: “I always try to make each one different from the previous season.

"So there’s always a little bit of pressure to make it bigger and hopefully better.”

She added: “Now take your tree out if the attic and start decorating. I swear it’ll give you so much joy.”
