The presenter has opened up about what her family usually gets up to during the festive season.

Speaking with The Irish Sun she explained: "In our house on Christmas day night often there’s a big movie on but people are in and out of the sitting room not everyone is going to sit and watch the movie or have the concentration for a couple of hours.

"But we often play cards on Christmas day night and it’s just for fun and we play a game called 25 and it’s very popular down the country.

"So we would do that and we would have a few drinks and the Christmas cake is going around and the fire is blazing and we’re playing 25 and we’re having great craic.

"Because my parents have played it since they were children and they are really good and we play it one day every year and we’re not really good except for my husband Leon who is from the other side of the world and he seemed to have picked it up super fast and they usually end up winning and making eejits of all of us."

She went on to add: "And often we would have a sing-song at the end of the night and we’re all sort of singers in our house so I love it it’s really special."

Grainne had a busy year after she became the Cinnire Gra for the hit Virgin Media series Gra Ar An Tra.

Speaking about the show she said: "We really enjoyed making it.

"We worked really, really hard and I think you could see that the production value was really good.

"We had a lot of fun and everybody who took part in it had a lot of fun too and I think it was uniquely Irish.

"It had so many Irish elements to it that you don’t see in other programmes like that so I think that made it a lot of fun for us.

"It was an authentic kind of programme and for me obviously the people who came in and didn’t have a lot of Gaeilge they really wanted to learn so that was really, really nice for me to see."

Grainne spoke at the event about how important it is to her to send love to the special people in her life at Christmas.

She said: “I am delighted to be An Post's 'Gra' ambassador this year to help motivate the nation to send love!

"I think there is something so special about receiving a card or parcel in the post, lots of my friends and family live in different countries so I will certainly be sending love with An Post to all the people I miss this Christmas!”
