The presenter gave birth to her child at just 20-year-old but she rarely talks about him in the media.

Grainne decided to speak up about her experience on her new documentary, Meanapas: Meon Nua.

She said: "I don’t have anything to compare it to. Because that’s how I always was. That was my normality.

"Your world changes overnight, but that happens to you when you become a mother, whether you’re 20, 30 or 40.

"Your focus is on this little human being that you are completely responsible for, and you are in love with."

Grainne explained how becoming a mum was the "best thing that ever happened" to her.

The 49-year-old said: "Because it’s a love like no other. It takes over your life and it makes your priorities laser sharp.

"It just happened to me younger than most of my friends.

"I actually think it was the best thing that ever happened to me, because it gave me a head start."

Grainne had a great support system of family and friends that allowed her to finish her degree in Galway.

She later went on to become one of the most recognisable faces on screen presenting on TG4, TV3, Sky News Ireland and RTE.

Grainne said: "The support enabled me to not only have my lovely little boy, but also to be able to go for it in terms of finishing my education and beginning my career.”

The former Dancing With The Stars contestant and her husband Leon Jordaan got married in 2019 in a private ceremony in Ireland.

She and the South African rugby coach met when they were 38 years old before they tied the knot years later.

The former TV3 star explained that she is delighted that she met Leon later in life as they both weren't playing any games.

Grainne said: "I really am lucky that I met the love my life a little big later. We were both 38 when we met and, at that age you are not game playing."

Grainne was previously married to former TV3 colleague and long-term partner Stephen Cullinane; they divorced in 2010.
