Grainne Seoige shares 90s throwback pic of her first day presenting TV3 news 20 years on

In a recent documentary Channel Hop, made by Virgin Media One, it was revealed that the nerve-racking broadcast began a day earlier than expected

GRAINNE Seoige has shared a 90s throwback pic from her first day anchoring TV3's news with Alan Cantwell.

The 44-year-old TV presenter, now living in South Africa with fiancé Leon Jordaan, posted the snap to celebrate 20 years since the first news report on the station.

She captioned the post: "Happy Birthday TV3! 20 years ago today myself and @alanrantwell were ‘anxiously’ getting ready to read the very first independent channel news in Ireland.

"You’ve come along way baby!" she said.

Seoige now focuses on her diamond business Grace Diamonds, and flies home for some presenting gigs such as Up For The Match and the People of the Year awards.

In a recent documentary Channel Hop, made by Virgin Media One, it was revealed that the broadcast began a day earlier than expected.

The young pair were surprised by the chief executive of TV3 Rick Hetherington when he announced he wanted to push forward the broadcast.

"The first thing I want to say about September 20 is that we were supposed to be on air on September 21," Seoige said in the interview with Alan Cantwell.

"He came down and said 'you're good to go, what are we waiting for?'

"So all of a sudden it was 24 hours earlier than we had prepared for mentally, which obviously does add another bit of stress to the occasion".

The snap of Seoige and Cantwell from 1998 was compared to the 90s sci-fi duo Mulder and Scully from the X-Files, to which she replied: "This often said at the time! Well spotted".

Seoige's co-host Alan Cantwell is now Senior Director at Insight Consultants, a Dublin-based communications consultancy.
