There are only two options:  replace the display panel, or use an external monitor.

There is no way to repair a physically broken LCD panel.

My apologies. The cracked glass screen appeared to be part of the crack. I did not realize that was your wallpaper...very confusing and I was misled. Your second picture was far more illuminating. And yes the only way to fix it is a new LCD. Again sorry but that threw me.

Dell does not repair monitors.  Few shops will these days, because the devices are usually glued together in such a way as to render repair either difficult or impossible.  Even if you can find a repair shop willing to try, they'll need to find a replacement panel - which, beyond being difficult, will likely wind up costing a large percentage of the initial cost of the monitor.

Unfortunately, LCD TV and monitors are becoming less and less repairable from both technical and economic standpoints.

Just wondering as I look at the screen it looks like a smiley face...is this a serious post as I have never seen a screen cracked in that manner. Plus the cracks do not seem to be affecting the taskbar. Please don't be offended but this looks like a prank screen.

I have an Inspiron 17r 5737. Disassembled the laptop, installed the screen. Put back together ~ only black screen with 1 loud beep snd 8 smaller ones. Read that we should go bk into the case and check to make sure the LCD cable is tight. It was ok ~ had to go through it again but still no resolve. It starts up ok but still a black screen and beeps. Is there a way to reset the laptop with specific hot keys (like F12) to get this functional again?

To reset the system, unplug it, remove the base cover and disconnect the battery from the system board.  Hold the power button for 30 sec.

Then reconnect the battery and replace the base cover.  Try powering up again.

A single beep indicates a faulty system board;  eight means the display isn't recognized.  What happened to necessitate the screen replacement?

Thanks , we were able to resolve this. We checked everything a 3rd time and then rebooted. Worked this time, no beeps. This is a 2014 and the screen cracked a few years ago. We replaced our computer since then but this Dell is perfect for our daughter!
