Hands-On Owl Pellet Dissection (FREE PROGRAM)

  • Wolf Gap Education Outreach 2718 Tarpley Shop Road Pulaski, TN, 38478 United States (map)

Join UT Southern’s Jamie Rogers, who will lead attendees of all ages in an owl pellet dissection. There will be a limited number of owl pellets available at no cost to attendees!

Since the owl's body can't digest fur, bones, or teeth, these pieces are later regurgitated, or coughed up, as small oval objects known as owl pellets, just like cats cough up hairballs! Skulls, bones, and furs found in an owl pellet can provide good hints to help identify what an owl has eaten.

This is the final program in Wolf Gap’s The Naturalist’s Notebook speaker series, inviting the public to Wolf Gap for programs on nature one afternoon a month from May-October.
